Simultaneous interpreting

During simultaneous interpreting the interpreter works inside a soundproofed booth and listens to the speaker through headphones while simultaneously translating into a microphone; the public hears the translation via headphones. In this case it is important for the interpreter to be able to see the speaker. This technique provides real time interpretation in multiple languages without disturbing the speaker. A booth is required for each language; each booth is occupied by two interpreters taking turns to interpret for a maximum of seven hours. One interpreter per booth is only possible if the service is required for no more than an hour.
